Journey Proud is a collection of original songs plus favorites by songwriter friends. Supporting musicians are: Byrd Burton, (lead guitar, dobro, pedal steel) founding member and producer of the Amazing Rhythm Aces (Third Rate Romance), band leader for Nanci Griffith and Dolly Parton. Byrd has recorded with many great artists, including Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, and many more. I continue to record with Byrd to this day, and my music is much better for it. Billy Graham, (bass, fiddle, mandolin) veteran concert and studio player, Billy is a legend in his native Texas. He worked with Roger Miller, travelling around the world with the "King Of The Road" and later had a ten year stint with Glen Campbell. Billy has had cuts by Joe Diffie, The Whites, Shania Twain and Emmylou Harris as a songwriter. He is my Nashville guru, and best bud. Rick Lonow, (drums) is the unfailing timekeeper with the busy studio datebook. Rick has toured with The Bellamy Brothers, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and currently resides with the Jamie Hartford Band. Along with Kelli Bruce and Craig Turner on background vocals, these musicians appear on almost every cut. Additionally, I enjoyed working with T.J. Klay on harp (Willie Nelson, Western Flyer), Michael Davis on keyboards (Dolly Parton), Stick Davis on bass (Amazing Rhythm Aces, BB King, John Mayall), and studio vets Danny Borgers(keyboards) and Bob Mason (mandolin).

Track List for Journey Proud: Sunshine In Your Mind (Reid) ~~ One of those songs that's written in 15 minutes and gets out with minimal changes. Of course, I thought about it for a couple of months. My basic philosophy in life. I'm pretty much an old hippie. You'll Be The First To Know (Lawson-Reid) ~~ Justin Lawson is a friend and collaborator from Tallahassee, we moved up to Nashville about the same time. He's got a great sense of what works and what doesn't, a fine voice, and all the ingredients to be a star someday. Uncle Joe's TV (Killough)~~ Rock Killough is a stalwart at the Flora-Bama, and great writer and performer, and a personal friend and inspiration. My thinking was, if I only make one album in my life, I want this song on it. Out Of Touch (Reid) ~~ This was an imaginary situation when I wrote it, but I ended up living it. Careful what you wish for. A song about loneliness. Guitar For Sale (Silverstein-Koller) ~~ Working with Shel Silverstein was a privelege, and also a blast. This was one of about 30-35 demos I cut for Shel, and when it came time for me to record my CD, he graciously allowed me to do this. Of course, I couldn't find the tapes of our original sessions, so I went on memory and left out a verse. Shel told me later Waylon did the same thing. Get Your Head Out Of Your Past (Miller-Bowman-Graham) ~~ How could I resist? Streets Of Gold (Douglas-Reid) ~~ My dear friend Jimmy Douglas came home from his father's funeral with this song in his head. Both my Mom and Dad passed away during the making of this CD, and remarkably around the same times as his Mom and Dad. This is for them all. 'Til The Stars No Longer Shine (Russell-Reid) ~~ Written with Dale Russell, lead guitarist for the Guess Who. He's been married a long time, and at the time, so was I. It ain't easy, but here's some ideas how. Kennesaw Line (Oja-Dunaway) ~~ Don Oja-Dunaway is famous in certain circles for his incredible body of tunes having to do with the Civil War. This song has been cut by Gamble Rogers and Claire Lynch, among others. In part because of reaction to this song, my next full length project is entirely about the war. You can see Don 6 days a week at The Milltop Tavern in St. Augustine, where he has held forth and swayed many an audience with his amazing original songs for over 27 years. That's known as a steady gig. Wayfaring Stranger (Traditional) ~~ For Mom and Dad. |
